Anomalous Transport from Kubo Formulas

Abstract:

It has recently been realized that axial anomalies give rise to new, non-dissipative transport phenomena. One of these, the so-called Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) is supposed to be related to charge separation observed in heavy ion collisions. A related effect is the so-called chiral vortical effect in which an anomalous current is induced by a vortex in the fluid. I point out that this can also be understood as a chiral gravito-magnetic effect and that, somewhat surprisingly, it receives contributions from the gravitational anomaly. I briefly discuss signatures of this effect in heavy ion collisions.
