EFFECTIVE FIELD THEORIES

Aleksi Vuorinen (CERN):

A New Approach to Effective Field Theory for Few-Nucleon Physics

Abstract:

I will describe an alternate formulation of the effective field theory expansion for nucleon-nucleon interactions, which is an extension of the previous approach of Kaplan, Savage and Wise (KSW). In the new setup, pion exchange is treated perturbatively and amplitudes computed analytically, yet without the convergence problems previously caused by the tensor force. Comparison of NNLO results with experimental data on phase shifts is seen to produce very promising results.
