QCD at finite temperature and density in the strong coupling limit

Abstract:

Due to asymptotic freedom, the continuum limit of lattice QCD is obtained at zero bare coupling. In this regime however, the sign problem at finite baryon density has restricted the study of the QCD phase diagram to small densities. On the other hand, in the opposite limit of infinite bare coupling, the sign problem can be dramatically reduced, and further algorithmic progress now allows a determination of the full QCD phase diagram, which is not too different from that expected in continuum QCD. Moreover, comparison can be made with two decades of analytic mean-field approximations.
