Center Vortices, Confinement and Chiral Symmetry Breaking

Abstract:

The center vortex model, proposed as an explanation of confinement in  non-abelian gauge theories is introduced. Some checks of the confinement properties of center vortices in SU(2) lattice gauge theory with improved Lüscher-Weisz gauge action are presented. Phenomena related to chiral symmetry, such as topological charge and spontaneaus chiral symmetry breaking (SCSB) are studied within the vortex model. In particular the influence of center vortices on the low-lying spectrum of the Dirac operator is analysed.
