Dark Energy Time Variation and Progenitor Evolution from CLASH HST Supernovae Ia

Abstract:

The nature and time scales of supernova evolution is not known. Measurement of the SN Ia delay time distribution can distinguish between scenarios. A supernova search with our Cluster Lensing And Supernova survey with Hubble extends the Hubble diagram of SN Ia to redshift z > 1.5 probing progenitor evolution and the constancy of dark energy (DE) with time. We use HST SNe at 1 < z < 1.5 for the variation in the DE equation of state. We find SNe at 1.5 < z < 2.5 which epoch provides the unique chance to test SN distance measurements for the deleterious effects of evolution independent of our ignorance of dark energy. We provide the first measurement of SN Ia rate at z ~ 2.
