PARTICLE PHYSICS AND THE LHC

Hermine K. Wöhri (CERN):

Quarkonium production in pp collisions at LHC

Abstract:

After a very successful start of LHC operation, a wealth of results in the quarkonium physics sector is already available, covering the J/ψ, ψ', and Upsilon states, as well as χc, χb and some "exotic states".
This talk presents these results, with emphasis on a detailed comparison of the results obtained by the four LHC experiments, showing that a rather coherent experimental picture emerges.
The reached accuracy allows for detailed tests of the theoretical models in the field, opening the way for a vastly improved understanding of the mechanisms of quarkonium production.
