PARTICLE PHYSICS AND THE LHC

 

SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT


Online application no longer is possible, we ask all participants to register on Friday Nov. 25 outside the lecture hall.

We have chosen the following topics for the major plenary talks and are happy to enclose the list of the confirmed invited lecturers:

Theory:

Flavor Physics in the LHC aera: Andrzej Buras (Munich)
Particle Physics with Ultracold Neutrons: Michael Ramsey-Musolf (Madison)
Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and New Physics for LHC. Francesco Sannino (Odense)
Cosmology and the LHC: Géraldine Servant (CERN)
Heavy Ion Physics: Urs Wiedemann (CERN)
QCD and Tools for LHC: Giulia Zanderighi (Oxford)

Boltzmann Lecture:

Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek (MIT)

There are fellowships available for junior scientists covering the hotel and part of the local expenses. Our financial resources make it necessary to limit the number of supported participants who will be selected among the applicants. Applications for fellowships should be submitted at earliest convenience, please arrange also for one letter of recommendation to be emailed to

vienna.theor-physik@univie.ac.at

We also invite applications for a limited number of talks from researchers working in areas related to the focus of the seminar. Junior participants, including advanced graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty, will be given priority.

In addition to the seminars there will be a poster session and a Conference Reception on Saturday evening.

At registration you will be asked to pay the registration fee of € 50. Payment must be by cash; we cannot accept credit cards. There will be no registration fee for students, nor for members of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna, of the Faculty of Physics of the Vienna University of Technology, of the High Energy Physics Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, or for current visitors of the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute of Mathematical Physics.

We will not be providing pens, paper or conference bags. Copies of the schedule, abstracts of all talks and the posters as well as the list of participants will be available, however.
